Fonthill Forest Management Plan

Brandywine Forest developed a comprehensive forest management plan for the grounds surrounding Fonthill Castle in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. The project is designed to improve public safety, restore ecological health, and guide the long-term stewardship of the property’s wooded landscape while respecting its historic character.

The plan evaluates forest structure, tree condition, invasive plant pressure, deer impacts, and opportunities for natural regeneration. Recommended management is organized into practical phases, beginning with the removal of hazardous ash trees and progressing through invasive species control, forestry mowing, deer-exclusion measures, and strategic reforestation.

By combining arboriculture, ecological silviculture, and restoration forestry, the plan provides the Bucks County Historical Society with a clear framework for developing a safer, healthier, and more resilient forest for future generations.
